• One day mortice lock only : This course is designed to teach someone who has a good  understanding of lever locks how to use a curtain wheel pick to open a  bs 3621 5 lever  lock  it is NOT a general locksmith course.

• Two day locksmith : This course is a perfect introduction to the Industry you will learn enough to work professionally but lock fitting and key cutting is not covered carpenters & joiners tend to do this course.

• Three day Intensive : This course covers everything and is recommended for the novice wishing to set up in business.

Do I need a van? No a car will be fine when you first start

Do I need to join a trade association to give my business credibility? No

Do I need to register with the police? No

How much can I earn? The average job takes between 20-30 minutes and pays £80-£100 this will be more for evenings nights and weekends

Do I need a criminal record check? You do not need a criminal record check to set up as a locksmith however it is possible some employers may ask for one

Are there any recognised qualifications in locksmithing? A bit of a grey area the short answer is no you simply learn the skills required then you trade with them you are paid on results

How much will the tools cost? Assuming you have no tools at all a full kit will cost between £450-£500.

Do I need personal liability insurance? Yes £50-£60 per year

Once I have completed my training and purchased my tools are there any other costs I need to know about? Only running your vehicle a mobile phone a supply of locks and advertising but all of these are ongoing costs which will be paid for with the money your business earns

I have just been made redundant is there any financial help available? Yes give us a call and we can advise you further

I am in receipt of benefits is there any financial help? A bit of a minefield usually you have to be unemployed for 12 months but its well worth applying
